The ceremony ceremony itself is frequently accompanied by both a religious and civil services, but there are many other norms that make up polish wedding cultures. Some are more elaborate than some, but all are meant to show the pair that their family and friends are united in their support of them and want them a happy life together.

One of the most famous polish wedding traditions is the Oczepiny (unveiling of the bride). The maitre d’ or circle leader likely proclaim the parents, who then come to a tiny table with bread and salt. The bakery symbolizes the hope that the couple will never practice hunger and the salt reminds them that life may often be tough and they must learn to cope together.

After the presentation of bread and salt, the partners has their initial toast- frequently this is a shot of vodka passed from person to person. The couple drinks from their glasses and, according to tradition, whoever ends up with the glass of vodka will wear the pants in the relationship!
